The IUIS Education (EDU) Committee and the American Association of Immunologists (AAI) are pleased to announce their continued co-sponsorship of 8 awards (4/course) for trainees from LMIC to attend the AAI Summer Courses in IMMUNOLOGY.
The Introductory Course in Immunology will be held July 8 – 13, 2025 in UCLA Luskin Conference Center, Los Angeles, CA
The Advanced Course in Immunology will be held July 27 – August 1, 2025 The Westin Copley Place, Boston, MA

AAI Introductory Course in Immunology
The Introductory Course in Immunology offers a detailed introduction to the basic principles of immunology and is suitable for students with a general biology background. After the presentation of basic principles, clinically oriented lectures will incorporate these concepts.
- Part I is a detailed introduction to the basic principles of immunology and is suitable for students with a general biology background.
- Part II is a clinically-oriented lecture series.
- Parts I and II may be taken independently at the discretion of the student.
AAI Advanced Course in Immunology
The Advanced Course is an intensive course is directed toward advanced trainees and scientists who wish to expand or update their understanding of the field. World-renowned immunologists present recent advances in the biology of the immune system and address its role in health and disease. This is not an introductory course; attendees need to have a firm understanding of the basic principles of immunology and laboratory techniques.
The Awards and Eligibility
AAI will provide registration and housing (up to 7 nights) for the 8 awardees. The IUIS will provide support for travel to the course and other associated expenses to a maximum of $2000 US. Additional expenses will be the responsibility of the attendee.
The IUIS Education Committee will evaluate applications, perform an initial selection of awardees, and submit proposed candidates to AAI and the GEC committee for final review and approval. Once the selected candidates are informed, AAI will assist them with registration, and IUIS will assist with travel costs reimbursement. Both AAI and IUIS will send the selected candidates a letter of invitation.
Please note that per AAI policy, this should be an applicant’s first experience with AAI courses.
Previous course attendees or IUIS/AAI awardees will not be considered. Preference will also be given to applicants who have NOT previously studied or had substantial research experience in the USA or other high-income countries (e.g., Great Britain, Germany, France, Australia, etc.).
Successful candidates must be conducting research and residing in LMIC (see eligible countries below); they cannot, for example, come from a LMIC but reside and work in a high-income country.

3) Previous educational or research experiences, and relevant immunology courses/workshops you have taken (year and course), and the location at which you attended them
4) A signed letter of reference with name and email of supervisor or mentor

EXTENDED DEADLINE: All applications for both the INTRODUCTORY and the ADVANCED course must be received prior to Noon, US Central time on March 30, 2025. Applications received or incomplete after this time will not be considered.
Only the candidates selected for awards will be notified.
If you are not notified, we are unfortunately not able to offer you an award in 2025. Due to the substantial number of applications and limited staff, we are not able to provide individual feedback.
