EFIS – Building a European Immunology Community
Founded in 1975, the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) is a non-profit umbrella organization representing 33 European, Eurasian and Middle-Eastern immunology societies, collectively uniting more than 14,000 individual immunologists. - facilitate education and training, by awarding short-term (3-month) fellowships to qualified applicants for purposes of scientific collaboration, advanced training or to acquire new methodologies or techniques in host European research and healthcare centers, and by offering travel grants to attend major international immunology conferences – namely ECIs and ICIs – but also including the upcoming FAIS 10th African Congress of Immunology;
- stimulate public understanding of immunology, by encouraging immunologists to take their knowledge out of the lab and into classrooms, decision makers’ agendas and the public spotlight to raise awareness about the importance of immunity in fighting major diseases and saving lives. To this end, EFIS first launched the Day of Immunology – held annually on April 29th – in 2005.
