The T-cell and Immunoglobulin Nomenclature Sub-Committee (TR-IG NSC) of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) Nomenclature Committee is responsible for validating, approving, and assigning names to newly discovered T-cell receptor and immunoglobulin Germline genes (TR and IG, respectively). We call upon the immunology and immunogenetics communities to support the ongoing work of the TR-IG NSC by sharing this advertisement with colleagues.
Specific tasks of members of the TR-IG NSC include:
- Oversee and coordinate IUIS- approved IG and TR nomenclature,
- Disseminate policies and new nomenclature to IG and TR germline databases,
- Perform outreach to the communities (databases, journals, funding agencies, individual immunology societies, etc.) for feedback on nomenclature and promote adoption of IUIS- approved nomenclature,
- Establish Review Committees and Working Groups to develop policies and assign names to newly discovered TR and IG genes and alleles. Review Committees are typically long-lasting entities that cover one data type or topic, whereas Working Groups are typically task-specific,
- Provide broad set of experts in field of immunogenetics to advise and coordinate Review Committees and Working Groups,
- Provide a forum for appeals of decisions from Review Committees and Working Groups,
Candidates for membership will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Motivation, passion, and commitment to the IUIS and its objectives,
- Membership in a Regular Member Society, an International Affiliate Member Society or Associated Member Society of the IUIS, or other Society whose mission involves the advancement of immunogenetics or a related field,
- Evidence of leadership experience in the IUIS and/or in the field of immunogenetics,
- Experience in the field of immunogenetics and/or related areas that adds to the Sub-Committee’s overall breadth of expertise, including evaluation of assemblies in complex genomic regions, species/group-specific knowledge of IG and TR genes, alleles, and loci, etc,
- Experience and/or heritage that adds to the Sub-Committee’s diversity of perspective (e.g., in career stage, ethnicity, gender identity, culture, and/or economic background),
- A body of publications and/or inventions in the field,
