Andrea Cossarizza: Immunopathology of COVID-19: lessons from pregnancy and from ageing

Overview

In this webinar, the most recent immunological advances in the fight to SARS-CoV-2 will be presented, embracing both clinical cases relating to persons with a different outcome of the infection, including those who typically experience a mild or a severe infection (such as pregnant women or elderly subjects, respectively), and the detailed responses to different types of therapies and vaccines.

Speaker

Andrea Cossarizza holds a Master’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Padua and a PhD in Oncology from the Universities of Bologna and Modena, with a Specialization in Clinical Pathology and Immunohematology from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. He became the Associate Professor of General Pathology and Immunology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 1998 and was appointed Full Professor in 2010. He is also Director of the School of Specialization in Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry and Vice Dean of the School of Medicine.

Rosana Pelayo holds a Principal Investigator position in the Mexican Institute for Social Security, Puebla, Mexico, where leads the Oncoimmunology Laboratory. Rosana Pelayo is Past-President of the Mexican Society of Immunology and Vice-Chair of the IUIS Education Committee.
