In 2012 GECD Committee sponsored four female students to attend various immunology courses that were considered important for their career development and promotion to higher ranks at their universities where women are still unequally represented:

Dr. Ghada Boghdadi from the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University, Zagazig, Egypt, was chosen to attend the FOCIS 2012 Advanced Course in Basic and Clinical Immunology at the FireSky Resort & Spa, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, February 26-March 1, 2012.  Support for Room and Board was generously provided by FOCIS.

Dr. Caroline Amolo Ogwang, Research Medical Officer, KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Porgramme, Kenya, was chosen to attend the American Association of Immunology (AAI) Introductory Immunology Course in Philadelphia, July 14-19, 2012.  Support for room and board was generously provided by AAI.  Please read Carolyn’s report about her experience at the course.

Drs. Maria Kazakova and Yana Federova, Assistant Professors at the Department of Medical Biology, Medical University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, were selected for travel support to attend the EFIS – EJI Ruggero Ceppellini Advanced School of Immunology in Naples in November, 2012.  Support for room and board will be covered by the school funds.
